Contemporary Mouse Models in Glioma Research

نویسندگان

چکیده

Despite advances in understanding of the molecular pathogenesis glioma, outcomes remain dismal. Developing successful treatments for glioma requires faithful vivo disease modeling and rigorous preclinical testing. Murine models, including xenograft, syngeneic, genetically engineered are used to study glioma-genesis, identify methods tumor progression, test novel treatment strategies. Since discovery highly recurrent isocitrate dehydrogenase (IDH) mutations lower-grade gliomas, there is increasing emphasis on effective IDH mutant brain tumors. Improvements models that capture phenotypic heterogeneity gliomas critical development new therapies. Herein, we explore current status, advancements, challenges with contemporary murine models.

Mouse models for cancer research

Mouse models of cancer enable researchers to learn about tumor biology in complicated and dynamic physiological systems. Since the development of gene targeting in mice, cancer biologists have been among the most frequent users of transgenic mouse models, which have dramatically increased knowledge about how cancers form and grow. The Chinese Journal of Cancer will publish a series of papers re...

Malignant Glioma: Lessons from Genomics, Mouse Models, and Stem Cells

Eighty percent of malignant tumors that develop in the central nervous system are malignant gliomas, which are essentially incurable. Here, we discuss how recent sequencing studies are identifying unexpected drivers of gliomagenesis, including mutations in isocitrate dehydrogenase 1 and the NF-κB pathway, and how genome-wide analyses are reshaping the classification schemes for tumors and enhan...

Mouse orthotopic models for bladder cancer research.

Bladder cancer is a common malignancy in the urinary tract. Despite different therapeutic options, recurrence and progression of urothelial carcinoma after treatment is not uncommon. Novel therapeutic options of bladder cancer are urgently needed. The preclinical evaluation of new treatments requires an animal tumour model that mimics the human counterpart. To date, various animal orthotopic bl...

Sundowning syndrome in aging and dementia: research in mouse models.

Both normal aging and dementia are associated with altered circadian regulation of physiology and behavior. Elderly individuals and dementia patients commonly experience disrupted sleep-wake cycles, which may lead to psychomotor agitation, confusion, and wandering. These behaviors are disruptive to both patients and caregivers. Sundowning syndrome, which encompasses many of these behaviors, is ...
